BLOCK
BLOCK; or the naïvete of the prince not crowned is my first solo poetry collection and is available as a printed book and an audiobook. BLOCK explores what happens when you base your confidence on your ability with words only then to find you no longer believe in what you say.
Blurb
In its print form, BLOCK is an A6-sized contemporary poetry booklet published with support from The Writing Squad in association with Wrecking Ball Press. Only 250 copies have been printed.
'At a loss for words/not like me, usually[...]'
BLOCK; or, the naïvete of the prince not crowned begins with the above line – written on the way home, alone, from a Sheffield nightclub at the peak of my first year of university – and rattles towards its language-less conclusion in the dirt somewhere beneath Park Hill Flats around five years later.
Each poem, or block, has an individual rhythm but is cemented by a universal form, veering from obviously constructed to seemingly formless towards the collection's conclusion. BLOCK represents my first attempt at crafting stories that I hope might be appreciated just as much for how they read, look and sound – something I'm still proud of.
While BLOCK was not initially written as part of a series, Proceed Only With Authority builds on many of its themes.
How to buy BLOCK
You can buy BLOCK as a printed book from me directly <whojackmann@gmail.com> for £5 plus £2 to cover first class postage and packaging; I will send you an invoice and then proof of delivery upon receipt of purchase. Alternatively, you can buy BLOCK as an audiobook on Bandcamp for £5.
To note, I operate as an independent artist. All proceeds from sales go back into whojackmann.com and its projects, from website maintenance to recording equipment to ensuring collaborators are paid fairly for their work.
The frankly weird and direct nature of emailing me to order (eurgh!) means I can sell at an accessible price point for most people and retain more margin for present and future work. The buy button should automatically take you to your email client. If not, please message me at whojackmann@gmail.com
